If your congregation has not joined ALC and you would like to become a member, you have a couple of options.  You can join as an "affiliated individual" or become part of an ALC Chapter.

Chapters

An ALC chapter is simply a group of individual members of ALC who unite to bear witness to the Gospel of Christ, meet regularly for fellowship and prayer, and act together in mission.  A chapter may elect representatives to vote at district and association meetings.  Members of a chapter may be within a single church or may have members from several churches.  Also, members  need not be a member of a church in order to belong to a chapter. As part of the subscription process, you will list the individual members in the chapter.  Because of this, you do not need to fill out an "individual subscription form" for each member.

Affiliated Individuals

Many individuals have asked if they can join the ALC as a personal statement or confession of their faith. In response, the ALC has created the category of affiliated member.

Affiliated individuals:

You may become an Affiliated Individual Members of ALC by signing the individual subscription form, and submitting the form by mail or Internet to the ALC office (using the online or printed forms below).

Pastors/Church Workers

A pastor or church worker (Associate in Ministry-AiM, organist, youth worker, etc.) may affiliate with the ALC by signing the appropriate subscription form, completing the credential form, and submitting them by mail or Internet to the ALC office (using online or printed forms below). ALC will then notify LCMC of its new ministry affiliate.

  • ALC pastors and church workers who currently serve an ALC congregation under a letter of call (or employment agreement) will be added to the ALC/LCMC List of Clergy Under Call.

  • The ALC Trustees and the ALC Secretary will maintain a directory of member congregations and affiliated pastors and church workers.

  • Pastors and church workers who seek a call from an ALC congregation will be added to the list of ALC/LCMC List of Clergy Open to Call.

  • Pastors who wish to be on the Augsburg List of Clergy must fulfill the requirements outlined in the ALC Ministry Standards (PDF), and receive recommendation from the Ministry Committee and approval by the Joint Council of the Augsburg Lutheran Churches.
