Our
Mission
The purpose of this fellowship and association is to support our common mission to bear witness to the good news that sinners are put right with God by faith alone in Jesus Christ, to resist any corruption of this gospel, and to serve and support fellow congregations who seek to do likewise. Looking only to the cross of Christ, we proclaim God's Word as law and gospel for the redemption of his people today. May God help us to the glory of his holy name. Our Objectives Proclaiming the Gospel—To serve and support members in their mission to proclaim the gospel (Matt 28:18-20). Preserving the Purity and the Freedom of the Gospel—To serve and support members in their mission to resist every corruption of the gospel (Gal 5:1). Laying Theological and Confessional Foundations—To educate and nurture members in their understanding of God's word as law and gospel, training them to look only to the cross of Christ for the redemption of God's people today. Our Declaration In accordance with the intent of this association to look only to the cross of Christ, proclaiming God's Word as law and gospel for the redemption of his people today, this association shall support theological guidelines and declarations adopted by this association (LCMC constitution, Statement of Purpose). "Our Declaration" has been commended in the by-laws of Lutheran Congregations in Mission for Christ (LCMC). While these declarations are not another confession of faith, we believe them to be a true witness and exposition of Holy Scripture and the confessional writings of the evangelical Lutheran church, which address the theological and confessional crises that challenge God's people today. These declarations are intended to help us fulfill our mission to confess the gospel in its purity and reject attempts to corrupt or obscure it. As a witness to the pure gospel of Jesus Christ, these declarations are neither laws nor prescriptions, but serve as a guideline for our preaching, teaching, pastoral care, evangelism, and the building of our faith community here and now. We recognize that these declarations may be revised or augmented as the present context for our mission changes. |
