Prayers

Grant us, O Lord, to trust in you with all our hearts; for as you always resist the proud who confide in their own strength, so you never forsake those who make their boast of your mercy; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

O judge of the nations, we remember before you with grateful hearts the men and women of our country who in the day of decision ventured much for the liberties we now enjoy. Grant that we may not rest until all people share in the benefits of true freedom and gladly accept the sacrifices it requires. This we ask in the Name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Teach us, good Lord, to serve you as you deserve; to give and not to count the cost; to fight and not to heed the wounds; to toil and not to seek for rest; to labor and not to ask for any reward, save that of knowing that we do thy will; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Almighty God, we commend to your gracious care and keeping all the men and women who serve in our armed forces at home and abroad. Defend them in the time of training and in the day of battle with your heavenly grace that they may be a safeguard to our country; strengthen them in their trials and temptations; give them courage to face the perils which beset them; and grant them a sense of your abiding presence wherever they may be; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Lord God, through the preaching of your apostle Paul, you established one Church from among the nations. As we celebrate his conversion, we pray that we may follow his example and be witnesses to the truth in your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

God of love, your Son washed the feet of his disciples as a sign of servanthood. Uphold those following his example of humble service at this time of crisis in our nation-our law enforcement and public safety professionals, health workers, counselors, pastors, and clean-up volunteers-and strengthen them in their faith. Help us all to do faithfully those deeds of love and mercy expected of your servants, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Lord God, our Creator and Redeemer, guide our leaders and government to walk in your ways and do your will, for the safety of all your creatures; unite us with your Word and Spirit, that we may serve one another to your glory, in Jesus' Name we pray. Amen.

Christ be with me, Christ within me,
Christ before me, Christ beside me,
Christ to win me,
Christ to comfort and restore me,
Christ beneath me, Christ above me,
Christ in quiet, Christ in danger,
Christ in hearts of all who love me,
Christ in mouth of friend and stranger. Amen.
