A New Lutheran Church on Hilton Head Island

The Harbor Christian Community Church is a new gathering of believers in Hilton Head—Bluffton, South Carolina. Organized unofficially in late July 2003, a steering committee has worked tirelessly in getting The Harbor up and running as a functioning Christian body. At a meeting on September 7, 2003, the congregation, prayerfully and by acclamation, agreed to become The Harbor and to join the Augsburg Lutheran churches and LCMC. Those decisions made us official!

We have chosen to use five purposes as the infrastructure for our church: Worship, Evangelism, Service, Spiritual Maturity and Fellowship. Ministry teams support each of these purposes. Every member of the congregation is on one or more of these teams. A Board of Elders is in place as spiritual leaders; a Board of Trustees will be established by early Spring to handle operation matters.

The Harbor worships every Sunday at 10:00 a.m. at the Hilton Head Beach and Tennis Club on Folly Field Road. Attendance has grown to over 60 people each week including a children's program.

The Harbor has a contemporary worship format with biblical theme-based teaching, drama/video support, and communion every Sunday.

Much study and prayer went into developing our purpose statement:

"God gives life to The Harbor to change lives through the power of the cross
and to develop fully devoted followers of Jesus."

It is the touchstone for everything we do at The Harbor. Firm in the assurance that God is blessing this new endeavor, we are totally committed to being one body with one purpose going in one direction.

We are grateful to the Augsburg Lutheran Churches and LCMC for their prompt and generous support financially. Your prayers and financial help has enabled us to launch our ministry here and to begin to share with others the saving word of the gospel and unmatched love of God in Jesus Christ.
