People
of Promise
"Welcome!"
to People of Promise Lutheran Church in River Falls, Wisconsin, our newest
mission church member. People of Promise worship at the former
Trinity Episcopal Church building at Fourth & Elm Street, River Falls,
WI, at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday evening, and 8:00 a.m. on Sunday morning.
During Lent they have a service at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesdays.
"The
most exciting thing about People of Promise is the confirmation
class," according to Rev. Tinka Bloedow, their pastor. She is
quick to add that her students have been a real blessing to their pastor
and their families. Several of the youth began attending without
their parents and now their families have joined, too.
In
addition to the weekly confirmation classes, the youth at People of
Promise are active in worship and the congregation's community service
project that delivers perishable foods to the needy. Leftovers
aren't thrown out. In fact, Pr Bloedow made a casserole with
leftover cactus once. "Its not bad if you peel off the
pricklies."

Peace
"On The Move" in Gulf Shores, AL
by Esther Nance
Praise be to God! Peace Lutheran began its third year as a
worshiping community this January! When we began at the quaint beach
house on the Gulf of Mexico, we didn't know what to expect. God's
gift of winter residents, our "Northern Lights" who worship with
us from January through March, blessed us with an "instant
congregation." This led to our calling Rev. Jim Hansen to be
our pastor in the fall of 2001.
Attendance grew our second winter. That led to the wonderful problem
of needing more room! This summer we made arrangements to worship at
the
South Baldwin Community Theater
2022 West 2nd Avenue,
Gulf Shores, Alabama.
In addition to the comfortable seats and fabulous acoustics, the Gulf
Shores location accommodates more people and we can have two services on
Sunday mornings. From January through mid-March, we worship on
Sunday at 8:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. with a fellowship hour at 9:30 a.m.
The rest of the year our Sunday worship is at 10:30 a.m. and the coffee
hour follows.
This year we are at a crossroad. Rev. Hansen had triple by-pass
heart surgery, and he is going to "really retire." We love
Rev. Hansen very much and want the best for him, but we will miss his
pastoral care and dynamic preaching. It has been hard for us to even
think of calling someone else. God has given us the gift of
candidates, though, helping us to face this new situation in faith.
We are so appreciative of the help we have received from the Ministry
Committee of the Augsburg Lutheran District, and Mrs. Lenae Rasmussen.
In addition to helping us obtain candidates to interview, Mrs. Rasmussen
worked with Mr. John Howe to share our vision and budget for 2003 with our
mission partners. As a result of their dedicated work, our request
for mission funds from LCMC was granted, and our prayer for more mission
partners is being answered. God is giving us a future with hope.
