DISTRICT NEWS The response to our Christmas letter and articles about the mission starts in The Crux of the Matter has been wonderful. Individuals and churches have sent donations to help these mission churches faithfully witness to the message of justification by faith alone for the redemption of God's people today. We have met our initial fund raising goal for Peace Lutheran, and are making good progress with the others. We are grateful that God has blessed these new congregations with the support they need to proclaim his gospel. Peace Lutheran Church in Orange Beach, AL, is moving from Romar Baptist church to the Gulf Shores Theatre. Peace outgrew its space this winter, and they are very grateful for the larger worship space. St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Niceville, FL, donated an organ to the folks at Peace, so they are all set for worship in the new location beginning this August.
A fund raising letter for mission starts is being sent with the support of Lutheran Congregations in Mission for Christ and several of its districts and member churches. This specific drive is to raise funds for Peace, Fellowship Lutheran Church in Louisville, KY, Sola Scriptura Lutheran Church (SSLC) in Flint, MI, and new starts yet to be named in Tennessee and the Carolinas. The funds received from this letter will be held by the Augsburg Lutheran District until the congregations call a pastor and begin to worship weekly on Sunday mornings. Donations for the ALD mission fund may be sent to:
You may designate which particular congregation(s) you would like to receive your gift, or you may send a gift to the mission fund to be used to support these mission starts on an "as needed" basis. Donations to the general fund of the Augsburg Lutheran District are also welcome. Transportation costs, the website, our newsletter, and other expenses related to supporting these new mission starts and informing people about them are paid from our general fund.
The Augsburg Lutheran District Liturgy Project The Augsburg Lutheran District is developing a list of worship resources as it continues looking into a variety of liturgical settings. An ad hoc committee is reviewing the Evangelical Lutheran Hymnary, a successor to the (former) ELC Lutheran Hymnary, as part of our "Liturgy Project." The committee is looking into new musical settings that "keep the words" of our faithful heritage. If you'd like to be part of our "Liturgy Project" please contact Mrs. Amy Williams (gobigrev@metc.com) or Mrs. Dorothy McNaught (dot@mddc.com). Evangelical Lutheran Hymnary (ELH) The Evangelical Lutheran Synod produced this successor to the (former) ELC Lutheran Hymnary. Like its predecessor, it has the three ecumenical creeds, the Small Catechism, and the Augsburg of Confession printed in the beginning of the book. For more information on this publication, including complete text of indexes, go to: http://www.blc.edu/comm/gargy/gargy1/ELH.html
Everyone Who Is Thirsty, Come! A new Jay Beech publication is now available through Augsburg Publishing. You can check it out online at: http://www.augsburgfortress.org/store/series.asp?series=285 The book, CD, and CD-rom stock are temporarily sold out, which is a good sign for a resource that has only been on the shelf about three months! Jay is a fine musician, and has a knack for marrying tune to text in a compelling way. Catechism Resources For confirmation instruction take a look at "Road Trip" by Hans Wiersma. It's available from Seraphim Communications at: http://www.seracomm.com/roadtrip. Your comments and feed back on all of these resources is welcome on the Castle Church Door (our discussion board) at http://www.augsburgdistrict.org/discus/dshtml/.
